Meeting Mr Rehberger.
What is the use of setting an alarm if it does not alarm you???
So the day started Andy called to confirm our appointment, damn late, CALL, TANJA.
Got dressed called taxi had everything I hoped. Slightly sweating I pick Tanja up at café Mozart. (Only go if you have lots of time). The excuses flowed, and off we went in the search of Mr Rehberger. After calling him to say I cant find him he said well I cant help you, then I realised we were already there, I was just slightly taken aback with the smell of …, curry.
Introductions were made, I tested out my recorder on my phone, as I have difficulty reading my own hand writing. As it did not work and Tanja´s iphone only sent me 1 minutes worth of the interview, here I sit as if I were an archaeologist, trying to decipher my scrawling.
A woman was responsible for Tobias being and staying in Frankfurt over 22 years ago. (They are no longer together)
The energy of Frankfurt and the ability to find things quickly are the advantages of the city. London is just impossible to find the simplest of things. This coming from someone that finds inspirations in miss understandings.
He is a passionate fan of Eintracht Frankfurt. I feared I would have to do this interview while he was watching the latests match in Frankfurt. I did have the pleasure last year of spending the election night at his house watching Obama win. Mr Rehberger is a very unassuming man, soft spoken but very to the point. Tobias and Claus Richter designed the interior of trade fair Design Annual 2008 at Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany which I may add if you like Disney this was it with a twist. We meet every now and then in Bar Central.
Other places which Mr Rehberger finds of interest is Robert Johnson,(of which he suggested the name) Cocoon when Sven Väth is playing. But if you want to dig even deeper there is Löwenbrunnen. I did not go inside.
Mr Rehberger will be in Rome on the third of October presenting his light exhibition. The following week will see Mr Rehberger be awarded the Hector-Kunstpreis in Mannheim.
As we were packing up to leave I asked him where would he like to do an exhibition, and he said in a vegetable garden in the town
of Lohrberg. For a man that is known the world over for his interpretations, its refreshing that Frankfurt has more to offer than just, the proliferations of banks.
